Chris says on the grading process, “When we first spoke about the grade we knew it was going to be in black and white and one of the artists had thrown some beautiful old tintype photos into the mix. 

Wolf James and I looked through a bunch of different monochrome camera images and came up with some looks - eventually deciding to pick out our favourite characteristics from a few different sources to create something unique and evocative. From there it was a case of trying to keep tight control over the highlights to help give the chalky finish, but doing so in a way which still gave the image some depth.”

On the flipside to the darkness of the grading suite, Chris loves the outdoors, he’s a rugby nut, a keen cyclist and is very at home noodling around his garden, which provides the perfect backdrop to boast his outdoor cooking skills learned in the BBQ states of America: Texas and New Orleans…Masterchef entry pending.

I love being part of one of the final stages that a project goes through - helping to tie everything together and communicate the message as well as possible through the use of colour. I consider it an honour to be trusted with helping to add polish to a project which has been part of the creators’ lives for weeks, months or even years before it arrives on my desk.

The variety of projects that I get to work is one of my favourite parts of the job - from features and tv series - to commercials and music promos - there are always new approaches and techniques to try"
